Flash Player 8 (Maelstrom) Public Beta
Public Flash 8 Player beta (English only) is now available at http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/public_beta/ .
We won't be able to enjoy new Flash 8 (8ball) features obviously, because there's no Flash 8 content, - still ActionScript performance enhancements are to be observed. The reason of this release is to test the new player with existing content and ensure compatibility. There are also a new installation mechanisms to test.
The beta Player seems very stable and compatible with existing content, I don't think you should skip the download because it's a beta. Also, if you are a developer, it's imperative that you test your own content with this release. Let Macromedia know the few glithces probably there and we will have a better Player released...

Adblock is not compatible! You have to turn it off to be able to watch Flash content.

Does anyone know if that new site FLY is done in Flash 8? http://www.liveonthefly.com
It's incredible. I have no idea how they did it! I heard on BombShock that EVB did it?

Hi Stewart,
A very well done site indeed. But I don't think they have used Flash 8 because it's not out yet and because the site requires Player 6 or above.
As I understand, Flash 8 will support video with alpha, but there are ways of achieving the effect even now with current tools (Also the drop shadow).
The videos used on the site seem pre-rendered (with the background) and embedded, to be able to play with Player 6.
Best regards,
Burak

A new build of public beta player is posted - it has some bugs fixed. You can now visit http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/public_beta/ and download it. Also, see if you have any installation issues. New build provides a better installation experience.
